Mayoral candidate Braddy faces foreclosure case, working to resolve it

Gainesville mayoral candidate Ed Braddy is facing an active foreclosure case on his Gainesville home and says he is working to resolve the situation.

Wells Fargo filed a foreclosure action in May 2012, saying no mortgage payments had been received since the previous summer.

This week, Braddy showed The Sun a letter from late March from Wells Fargo in which the bank agreed to modify the mortgage in a step toward ending the foreclosure process.

The case involves Braddy’s home in northwest Gainesville’s Chatworth Court neighborhood. The home is his registered voting address and his listed residence on his campaign filing papers.

Under the terms of a 2008 divorce, Braddy gave up the home and was not responsible for the mortgage payments. But his name remained on the deed and the mortgage.

He said he moved back in last summer, after the foreclosure case was filed. He took over sole ownership of the home in October 2012, a deed filed with the Clerk of Courts showed.

Braddy said he took over ownership and modified the mortgage to keep the home from being foreclosed.
