Buchholz volleyball coach Justin Dee, who led the Bobcats to the Class 7A state semifinals in his first season at the school, is leaving to become head volleyball coach at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss.
Dee broke the news to the administration and players on Tuesday at the school. He will fly out to Jackson on Monday to spend two weeks preparing for the move, but will return to complete his tenure at Buchholz.
A math instructor at the school, Dee said his teaching certificate was about to run out and this opportunity to coach on the collegiate level came up.
“It is a blessing I got a job at Belhaven,” said Dee, who led the Bobcats to a 25-6 mark, losing to state champion Venice in the state semifinals. “Obviously, volleyball is my passion and making this decision certainly wasn't easy. There were a lot of tears when I told the players.”
