Three Rivers Legal Services is offering free legal services to low- to moderate-income residents facing foreclosure after the agency received funding from the state settlement with banks over mortgage practices.
The agency’s goal is to help 300 people in its 17-county service area through June 30 or until the $214,000 in funding runs out as part of a three-month trial, said Thomas DePeter of Three Rivers.
Attorneys general in Florida and 48 other states, along with the federal government, reached a $25 billion settlement with the five largest banks in February 2012.
To apply for services, residents of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy and Union counties can call 800-372-0936; in Columbia, Dixie, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee and Taylor can call 800-495-0039; and in Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns can call 904-394-7450.
