Tell us the truth

Last week's so-called sonic boom not only rattled our house, but also shook our foundation. We experienced a small earthquake when we lived in Lexington, Ky., and sonic booms when we lived in the Kansas City area. This felt more like an earth tremor, not a sonic boom.

Could a military bomb have accidently been dropped? Maybe a bunker bomb? Can someone tell us the truth?

Public interest

Shouldn't The Sun be reporting what Mayor Craig Lowe was doing in that location at that time of night when he was arrested for DUI? The answer should be of interest to the public he serves.

Even better

In reference to the Cone Park Branch Public Library, how nice it is to see new construction on the east side of our town. It would be even better if the architects would share a drawing of the finished building so we could see the improvement in the appearance of the park.

Automatic citizenship

Does anyone else find it curious that people who are not legal citizens of the United States can enlist in the military and fight for our country, and yet, when they return, need to apply for citizenship. Isn't this a great country? God help them and their families if they die fighting for the good ol' USA. Enlistment and completing that enlistment or dying in the process should be grounds for automatic citizenship.

Boyd Rasmussen,

Gainesville

Alarming switch

The recent talk about Senator Rob Portman's switch on gay marriage is interesting if not alarming. If his daughter decided to prostitute herself for extra money for college, would he then support legalizing prostitution? I think not. If his wife had a fling with a neighbor, would he then endorse adultery? I think not. Are we becoming a nation where politics replace moral conviction and integrity? I hope not.

Jack Martin,

Gainesville
