A warm and sunny weekend is the forecast from the National Weather Service, with highs in the 70s and no chance of rain until Sunday night.

The unusual cold temperatures of this week will not return for the foreseeable future as this weekend's warming trend will continue into next week.

No hazardous weather is expected this weekend.

National Weather Service forecast for Gainesville:

Friday: Patchy frost before 10 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 74. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday: Night A 20 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 7 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 81.
