A Gainesville man accused of attacking and taking money from a disabled person was arrested Thursday on robbery and other charges.
Garnet L. Davis, 48, of 103 SE 25th Terrace, was charged with robbery, battery and abuse of the disabled or elderly, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.
Davis was talking to a man and woman about needing money. The man, who is visibly disabled and does not have full use of his left side, would not give him money, the report states.
Davis began walking toward him. The woman tried to step in between, but police say Davis pushed her down and began hitting the man. The man fell to the ground, and Davis continued hitting him, the report states.
The woman tried to get Davis off the man, and he again hit her, took $40 from the man’s pockets and fled, according to GPD.
Both victims have known Davis from around their neighborhood and identified him in a photo lineup, police reported.
