A west Gainesville teenager on Tuesday confronted a burglar who forced her to lie in a bathtub while he scoured the house for electronics and other items that he took.
The incident was reported about 10:36 a.m. in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood off Newberry Road, Alachua County sheriff’s spokesman Art Forgey said.
A 15-year-old told authorities that she was in bed and heard two thumping noises toward the back deck area of the home, Forgey said.
She then heard a loud crash and got up to go investigate. She was met in the hallway by a man who had broken in.
Forgey said the man forced the girl to a bathroom and made her lie in the tub, pulling the shower curtain down on top of her.
The culprit looked through the house and made off with electronics and jewelry.
The teen described the burglar as a slender, 6-foot-2-inch black man possibly in his early 20s. He wore a beanie cap, baggy khaki cargo pants, a camouflage jacket and black boots. He was carrying a backpack with a desert-style print.
Sheriff’s deputies established a perimeter and K-9 tracks were initiated. The burglar was not found.
