Halifax Media Group has named Terry Tramell circulation director for the Gainesville Sun and the Ocala Star-Banner.
Tramell will manage a team of approximately 20 staff members as well as a large number of contractors and will split his time between the properties. Among his duties will be oversight of home delivery and single-copy sales.
Tramell most recently was circulation director at the Bradenton Herald, an affiliate of the McClatchy Company, and previously served as circulation director at newspapers in South Carolina and Ohio.
"We are so pleased to get someone with Terry's background to lead our circulation efforts for the two newspapers," said Jim Doughton, publisher of the Star-Banner and the Sun. Doughton is also a regional publisher with Halifax Media Group.
On May 6, Halifax will activate an Ocala-based circulation call center for both newspapers.
"We are looking forward to bringing the circulation call center back to Ocala so we can better serve our customers. Terry will lead that staff in addition to the entire circulation staff in both markets," Doughton added.
"I'm excited to be working for Jim and the Halifax organization," Tramell said. "I am very optimistic about their vision. The key to growth is quality service. I'm excited we're moving customer service back in-house. Lots of people take short cuts, but we're doing it the right way, allowing us to better serve our customers."
Doughton said Tramell also would be involved in leadership positions in both communities.
"We're pretty excited about his background of community service, so we look forward to his not only leading circulation efforts, but taking a big part in both communities, especially Ocala," Doughton said.
Tramell served on the boards of the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corp. and its Partners Council, and also participated in a number of other initiatives during his 6½ years in that community.
Tramell, 44, was born in Middlesboro, Ky., and earned a bachelor's degree in corporate and organizational communications from Western Kentucky University. He is single and has one son, age 14.
