A 35-year old Lake City woman died in a car wreck just before midnight Sunday after she lost control of her vehicle on U.S. 90 at the intersection of northwest Ridgewood Avenue in Columbia County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Tameka Denise Robinson was driving with her two daughters, Shaquana Robinson, 17, and Jamaya Suiter, 13, when her 2005 Ford Crown Victoria suddenly swerved left and then overcorrected to the right, witnesses said. The vehicle then spun out of control, leaving the roadway onto the south shoulder toward a car sales lot, striking the curb and a pedestrian crosswalk sign pole, as well as parked vehicles, as it began to flip over.
The vehicle continued to travel southeast as it vaulted over and struck other cars in the parking lot, sending debris into three other cars. Both passengers were ejected before the car came to rest upside down.
Emergency personnel pronounced Tameka Robinson dead on the scene. Her daughters were transported to Shands at the University of Florida in serious condition. By Monday morning, authorities reported that one daughter’s condition had worsened to critical, although it was not clear which one.
All three occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, FHP reported.
