COACH OF THE YEAR

Steve Bauer, Gainesville

He takes this award for the third straight year after his second straight 6-0 regular season and second-place showing at Keystone Heights Invitational. The Hurricanes had an area-best 10 lifters place in the top three in their respective weight class and qualify for the state meet. Led by Jessica Kinsler, who won her second straight state title at the 154-pound class, and fourth-place finishes by sister Janice Kinsler (129) and Brenna Thomas (169) as GHS placed fourth at state with 13 points.

The Gainesville Sun all-area teams, players of the year and coaches of the year were selected by high school sports editor Larry Savage with help from area coaches. If a team is not represented, it is because the coach did not respond to repeated emails sent to the school requesting information and numerous reminders in the newspaper.
