AUSTIN, Texas -- I heard from a waiter, from the concierge, from Twitter and text messages. So I went. And I came away hungry.
It's not far from the hotel so on Friday morning I walked over to Franklin BBQ at around 11 a.m. Already, the line stretched the length of the building and into the parking lot.
Franklin is supposed to be the best barbecue in a town full of barbecue. I wanted to try. But I had been warned that you can stand in line and they might run out. Instead, I talked to some people in the front of the line who told me they arrived at 8:45 a.m.
Then they suggested some other barbecue joints. Because, as they said, the line's too long now. I would get shut out. Sigh.
It was still a pretty cool scene because a lot of people brought coolers and chairs and were having a party. Maybe I'll try again.
And, yes, I did think about dropping some money on those people in the front of the line and ask them to get some ribs for me. But I'm sure “line etiquette” would have prevailed.
