5 things of note in area sports

-Gainesville High girls soccer coach Chrissy Roddy has resigned after three years as head coach and about 10 years with the Hurricane soccer program. GHS, led by player of the year candidate Casey Troiano, went 13-7-1 this past season and did not allow a goal in victories over Gainesville-area schools Santa Fe, Eastside, Oak Hall, St. Francis, P.K. Yonge and Buchholz. The ‘Canes fell in the district semifinals. Roddy said she has decided to pursue other opportunities.

-Gainesville Area Rowing has had a lot of high schoolers in action recently. Earlier this month, GAR placed second out of 12 teams at the OARS Regatta in Orlando. Area athletes were Marcello Lovreglio (Buchholz), Trey Koziol (BHS), Robert Powell (PKY), Donavan Fosmoe (St. Francis), Saxon Elyaman (Buchholz), Brandon Clark (Buchholz), Austin Dubose (Buchholz), LJ Curl (Eastside) and Danny Oquendo (GHS). They won all of their races by open water, winning the final over Miami by 20 seconds; Men's Varsity 4: Blake Victorian (GHS), Peter Thomas (Trilogy), Erich Zellmer (EHS), Julian Lovreglio (BHS), and Ben Sanchez (BHS) finished third overall.
