Gator baseball opens SEC slate against Kentucky

What: The Gators begin the 30-game SEC schedule against the Eastern Division rival Wildcats. The teams tied for second (18-12) in the East last season behind South Carolina (18-11).

Players to watch: UF freshman right-hander Jay Carmichael (2-1, 2.00 ERA) will make his starting debut tonight in the series opener and will oppose Wildcat sophomore left-hander A.J. Reed (2-1, 3.22). Carmichael has made nine relief appearances and has held opponents to a .167 batting average. UF will throw junior right-hander Jonathon Crawford (0-2, 4.22) vs. UK senior lefty Jerad Grundy (3-1, 1.35) on Saturday and freshman right-hander Eric Hanhold (0-1, 6.39) against Kentucky junior lefty Corey Littrell (2-0, 3.42) on Sunday.

Of note: UF has split four weekend series this season in alternating fashion against Duke (L, W, W), FGCU (L, L, L), Miami (FL) (L, W, W) and Indiana (L, W, L) at home.
