A car crashed into the side of a University of Florida residence hall Friday afternoon, but no one in the dorm was injured, officials said.
Officials would not identify the driver, nor would they give the driver's condition or explain how the accident occurred. Officials did say that the female driver was taken to Shands at the University of Florida.
Around 3 p.m. Friday, the driver of a gray BMW 325I drove into the side of a bedroom in the Lakeside Complex residence hall. No one was in the room at the time of the crash, said Norbert Dunkel, UF associate vice president for student affairs.
The car did not penetrate the wall of the bedroom, but a window was shattered and cement blocks shifted and broke off on the outside wall, officials said.
Lauren Troncoso, 19, the resident of the bedroom, came home to find her bedroom window covered with a large board. Out of the four roommates, the UF journalism freshman was the only one not at home at the time of the crash, so a roommate called her.
“None of my stuff was damaged, just the window,” Troncoso said. “My roommate next door slept right through the crash.”
The UF Housing staff removed three trash cans full of cement and debris from the crash scene and boarded up the side of the residence hall.
