Late last night I wandered into the hotel bar to watch SportsCenter after spending 14 hours in the Bridgestone Arena. It was warm, which was a huge plus because the arena is freezing.

And memories began to flash to my last time here for SEC basketball in 2010. I was sitting in the same bar, confident that Florida had broken it’s two-year drought and would be in the NCAA Tournament. Then, it happened.

Joe Lunardi had moved the Gators from Last Four In to First Four Out.

That’ll ruin an evening.

A day later, I was in my room writing a column about why Florida was left out. Then the selection show started. And Florida was in. Not only were they in, they were in comfortably as a 10 seed. And not only were they a 10 seed, they were going to Oklahoma City where I have friends from my many trips to the softball College World Series.

That was a good night.
