An apartment complex maintenance man was arrested Wednesday night on a sexual assault charge on allegations that after being sent to a woman's apartment to fix her blinds, he raped her while she was cooking lunch for her 3-year-old daughter.
Vernon Bernard Moss, 45, of 7210 SW 45th Place, was charged in the case, according to an Alachua County Sheriff's Office report.
The incident happened on Dec. 20 at the Verdant Cove apartments, 4260 SE 10th Place, according to the report. It states that Moss was in the woman's apartment to fix her blinds and committed a sexual act on her while she was cooking in front of the child. Then he carried her into a bedroom, where more sexual acts were committed, the report states.
The woman later received a medical examination. Moss denied any contact with her but consented to a cheek swab for DNA. Results showed his DNA matched that collected during the woman's exam, the report states.
