An Alachua man suspected of beating his wife in front of their children on Sunday has been arrested.
Alachua Police Department Detective Jesse Sandusky said Thomas Henry Carter II was charged with felony domestic battery, two counts of child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. The woman told police she had been battered by her husband, who then left the home in her van, Sandusky said in a press release.
Police were given a description of the van. Later that afternoon, an APD officer driving to work spotted the van getting on Interstate 75 with a blown tire. The officer stopped the van and arrested Carter, Sandusky said.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries, he added.
