The University of Florida's graduate business school is ranked in the top 15 among U.S. public schools, according to U.S. News and World Report.
The Hough Graduate School of Business ranked 15th among public schools in the 2014 edition of Best Graduate Schools, released Tuesday, jumping four places from last year's ranking.
The graduate business school ranked 36th overall among public and private institutions — up eight spots from last year.
School director Selcuk Erenguc said in a statement that he was happy to receive such recognition.
"The rankings hold testimony to the effectiveness of our outstanding faculty, top-quality students and dedicated MBA staff," he said.
The UF Levin College of Law rose two spots in its overall ranking, moving from 48th to 46th overall among the country's 201 accredited law schools. The law school also went from 25th to 24th among public schools.
Law school Dean Robert Jerry said he was pleased to the see the improvement, but he thinks rankings are only part of a bigger picture.
"This is one data point out of a great many that anyone thinking about a law school's quality ought to think about," he said.
The law school ranked highly in two specialty areas. In tax law, the college ranked first among public law schools and third overall, and the school ranked fifth among public schools and 12th overall in environmental law.
Jerry touted the school's reputation ranking, where the school placed 11th among public schools and 26th overall in the assessment of practicing lawyers and judges.
Jerry said in the eyes of prospective law school students concerned about getting jobs after graduation, reputation can make a difference.
"That's one factor that could be helpful in having more students making us their first choice," he said.
Many other individual UF programs were ranked in the top 10 this year, including special education, agricultural engineering and audiology.
