Loucheiz Purifoy isn't the only Gator who will be playing a new position this spring.
UF coach Will Muschamp announced several position changes Tuesday.
Here they are:
* Antonio Morrison from outside linebacker to middle linebacker.
* Cody Riggs from cornerback to safety.
* Michael Taylor from middle linebacker to outside linebacker.
* Max Garcia from offensive tackle to offensive guard.
* Quinteze Williams from defensive tackle to offensive tackle.
* Bryan Cox Jr., who is up to 260 pounds, from the Buck position to defensive end.
* Gideon Ajagbe from linebacker to fullback.
* Rhaheim Ledbetter from safety to fullback.
Easley will open at end
With the departure of defensive tackles Sharrif Floyd, Omar Hunter and Earl Okine, there was speculation that senior Dominique Easley would move back inside to tackle after playing end last season. But he's going to open the spring at end.
“Dominique Easley will play both end and tackle,” Muschamp said. “He's listed as an end. He may show up tomorrow and may be a tackle. It's going to depend on who our best four guys are and our best combination of players.
“He's certainly going to be one of those four. Where he ends up really depends on the other guys.”
Group effort on special teams
With D.J. Durkin being promoted to defensive coordinator, Muschamp said Durkin's past role as special teams coordinator would be shared by the coaching staff.
“Brian White will coach punt team, Travaris Robinson will coach kickoff coverage, punt block and return teams, Joker Phillips will handle kickoff return,” Muschamp said. “Really, all of us worked in those sections last year when D.J. kind of headed it up. We will all contribute as far as that's concerned with special teams.”
Muschamp said true sophomore Raphael Andrades will practice with the football team this spring and also will remain on the UF baseball team, where he is a backup outfielder.
“Raphael Andrades is going to be a part of the football team,” Muschamp said. “He's obviously been playing baseball with Sully (Kevin O'Sullivan). Sully and I are on the same page, but he's going to be in our practices, in our meetings, still splitting some time with baseball as we continue to move forward with that.”
Muschamp announced that four players will miss the entire spring with injuries — offensive tackle Chaz Green (ankle), Buck Ronald Powell (knee), outside linebacker Matt Rolin (knee) and offensive guard Ian Silberman (shoulder).
Muschamp said several players would see limited action, including wide receiver Solomon Patton (arm), offensive guard Jon Halapio (knee), linebacker Neiron Ball (ankle) and punter Kyle Christy.
Dunker still in limbo
Muschamp said there is nothing new to report on redshirt offensive guard Jessamen Dunker, who was suspended from the team indefinitely following his arrest for grand theft of a motor vehicle (scooter) earlier this season.
“He's suspended,” Muschamp said. “I haven't had any communication (with him).”
