Lake City woman dies from gunshot, police say

A Lake City woman died early Sunday morning after being shot the day before, and investigators continue to hunt for a suspect.

Misty Dawn Harper, 32, was shot while walking on Marion Avenue at about 5:43 a.m. Saturday, according to the Lake County Police Department.

Harper was taken to Shands at the University of Florida, where she died around 2 a.m. Sunday, LCPD spokesman Steve Shaw reported in a press release.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Bailey was in the area of North Marion Avenue and State Road 100A when he heard a gunshot and found Harper lying in the southbound traffic lane of North Marion Avenue, Shaw reported.

The case is under investigation by LCPD with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

LCPD investigators are asking that anyone that can provide information about Harper or the incident call police at 386-752-4344 or call anonymously on the TIP line at 386-719-2068.

A reward of up to $1,000 reward is available through Crime Stoppers for any information leading to the successful capture and prosecution of the suspect in this case. The Crime Stoppers number is 386-754-7099.
