Roundup: Florida softball upset at Auburn

Florida (24-2, 1-1 SEC) used freshman Kelsey Stewart's stolen base in the first and a sophomore Briana Little's three-run home run over the left-center scoreboard in the third inning for the early 4-1 lead before Auburn's late comeback.

For the second consecutive day, Little led Florida with a 2-for-3 performance, one run scored and three RBI. Stewart and fellow freshman Taylor Schwarz accounted for UF's other two hits. Auburn (18-6, 1-1 SEC) used seven hits to top the Gators.

UF junior pitcher Hannah Rogers dropped to 12-2 with the loss.

The Gators and Tigers close the series with a 2 p.m. game today. All Gator games are carried live on WYGC-FM 105 (104.9) in Gainesville.

Lacrosse: Four Gators scored multiple goals led by sophomore midfielder Shannon Gilroy, who tied a season-high five, as No. 2 Florida improved to 9-0 with a 14-9 win at No. 13 Dartmouth. The Gators notched their fifth win over a ranked opponent this season.

The win also snaps the Big Green's (4-1, 1-0 Ivy) 16 game regular-season home win streak that dated back to April 17, 2010.

Senior attack Kitty Cullen chipped in four points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore attack Nora Barry scored a season-high three goals and senior attack Ashley Bruns found the back of the net twice and also recorded an assist.

The Gators next host Lehigh starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Women's tennis: Fifth-ranked Florida won a thrilling doubles point and took that momentum onto the singles court where they raced to big leads early en route to a 7-0 win against South Carolina (8-5, 1-2 SEC) at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex.

The Gators improved to 179-1 all-time at home against SEC foes and have won their last 71 at the Ring Tennis Complex vs. league opponents.

Florida (9-2, 2-1 SEC) also extended its overall home win streak to 113, the longest active home winning streak by any NCAA Division I women's team in any sport.

Picking up wins for the Gators were Lauren Embree, Sofie Oyen, Alexandra Cercone, Brianna Morgan, Olivia Janowicz and Caroline Hitimana in singles and Embree/Morgan and Hitiama-Janowicz in doubles.

Florida returns to action Friday when it hosts ninth-ranked Georgia beginning at 5 p.m.

Men's golf: Freshman A.J. Crouch led eighth-ranked Florida on the second day of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at the Southern Highlands Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev. The Gators recorded a 304 (+16), which has the team tied for 11th place after two rounds.

After posting an opening round-73, Crouch registered his second straight one-over par of the tournament. He recorded four birdies against three birdies and one double-bogey at the par-72, 7,510 yard course. He is two-over par for the event and is tied for 18th place going into Sunday's final round.
