A Gainesville man was arrested Friday on allegations he had sex on three occasions with a 15-year-old girl at a church building, according to police.
Charles Eugene Thomas Jr., 28, of 2525 NE 13th Ave., was charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a person under the age of 16.
Police said the incidents happened at the Jesus People Life Changing Church at 800 NW 39th Ave. The girl told police that sexual activity occurred twice in February in a secluded area of the building.
On March 3, Thomas led the girl to the same area and again engaged in sex, the report states. A witness told police he tried to get into the same area but a podium was blocking the door.
As the witness opened the door, he heard a noise of someone running up or down stairs, the report states. When he got into the area, the witness saw the girl at the bottom on the stairs naked from the waist down and Thomas at the top of the stairs, the report states.
Under police questioning, Thomas acknowledged on March 5 being in the same area with the girl. The report states he told police that she pursued him and began undressing in front of him. He denied any sexual contact with the victim.
