Sponsored by the Westwood Middle School Parent Teacher Association, the Summer Activities Fair will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday in the cafeteria at Westwood Middle School at 3215 NW 15th Ave. Parking will be provided in the field behind the cafeteria, so follow the signs.
Pam Harrison, president of the Westwood PTA, said the information being offered will be geared to elementary and middle school children and suitable for any child’s interest.
She said there will full-day and half-day camps and a wide range of activities, including academics, music, athletics, drama, science, equestrian and more. Harrison said some vendors will have interactive displays, demonstrations and giveaways, and all vendors will be available to discuss their programs one-on-one with those attending.
“Families will discover under one roof all the options and opportunities for children available this summer,” Harrison said.
Harrison said the Westwood PTA took over the Summer Activities Fair seven years ago when the city of Gainesville decided to stop offering the fair. “We didn’t want to see this event go away, so we took it on,” Harrison said.
Last year, 150 to 200 people attended, but more are expected this year.
“The fair is like an open house in that people can come and go as their schedules fit,” said Harrison, adding that there will be early registration information and some vendors will provide registration on-site.
