A man driving a Dixie County sheriff’s patrol car received minor injuries when the cruiser hit a deer Tuesday night in Lafayette County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Timothy Roberts, 31, of Cross City, suffered injuries from the deployment of his airbag and from his seat belt, FHP stated in a press release. A passenger, John Michael Byrd, 29, of Cross City, was not hurt.

The accident happened about 9:41 p.m. on State Road 51 south of County Road 357.

Roberts was driving a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria sheriff’s patrol car southbound when a deer leaped into the road. FHP said Roberts was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Roberts’ association with the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office was unclear on Wednesday.
