Clay County authorities are hunting for two burglars who were caught on video smashing the glass front door of a Keystone Heights convenience store and then trying to steal the store's ATM.
The burglars, wearing dark clothes with hoodies, shattered the glass door of the Kangaroo Store at 6835 State Road 21 just before 3 a.m. last Friday and attempted to "tow" out the ATM machine with their truck using a tow strap, according to video obtained by the Clay County Sheriff's Office. As it turned out, the tow strap was too short to reach the ATM machine so the burglars can be seen on video abandoning the attempt to steal the machine, deputies said.
Sheriff's Office detectives are asking for help from anyone with information related to the suspects or to the red Ford truck seen in the video. The truck will have damage to the tailgate where the driver ran it into the concrete pole in front of the store, authorities said.
Call Detective Chad Ricks at 904-264-6512.
