The Checkers in Butler Plaza closed Feb. 25, according to a former employee.
The property is scheduled to be redeveloped into a strip center with five restaurants.
On Jan. 24, the City Plan Board approved a special use permit and development plan review to demolish the building at 3520 Archer Road, along with the adjacent former Florida Citizens Bank building, and rebuild a 10,700-square-foot building with five parcels and one drive-through lane.
The Brass Tap
The Brass Tap opened Feb. 18 at 3833 Archer Road.
The bar sells more than 300 craft beers - including 60 on tap - wine and cigars. Madison Glass, a trainer, said the bar plans to have live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Beef ‘O' Brady's owns the franchise rights and this is the fourth location.
Glass said that while the bar doesn't serve food, The Brass Tap has worked out a deal with surrounding restaurants through which patrons can order food and the restaurant will walk meals over.
4 new restaurants coming to Oaks Mall
Red Robin and three other restaurants will open in The Oaks Mall in late March, said Angie McCann, general manager at the mall.
In the food court, Maki of Japan will replace Lotus Express, Suki Hana will replace Asian Chao and Charley's Grilled Subs will replace Great Steak & Potato Company.
All leases are signed independent of other restaurants, so it is coincidental that there are three closings in such a short time, McCann said.
