A Gainesville man was arrested Sunday and accused of beating and stabbing a woman he suspected of taking drugs, according to a report.
Brandon Eugene Smith, 52, and the victim, with whom he has lived with for a year, got into an argument around 5 p.m. when he accused her of smoking crack, a Gainesville Police Department report states.
Smith yelled at the woman and when she didn’t respond, he spit on her and said he would kill her, the report stated. He grabbed her by her hair and ripped her shirt, tossing her to the ground where he kicked and punched her in the torso, police said.
The woman called 911 and grabbed a kitchen knife, but Smith reportedly took it away and cut her across the back of her neck. He pulled her hair, banged her head against a wall and put his hand over her face.
The woman said she was going to leave and Smith said she wasn’t moving fast enough and threatened to kill her, the report states. He threatened to hit her with a glass bottle and later a chair.
The woman had a 5-inch laceration to her neck, a cut on her left forearm, and abrasions to her torso, the report noted. Police found clumps of her hair on a couch and floor.
Smith told police he just wanted her to leave the house and said it was only an argument, the report notes. Smith was arrested on charges of felony counts of aggravated battery and aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of simple battery.
