The manager of a Gainesville Dunkin' Donuts store was arrested Friday on grand theft charges for allegedly stealing from the store, police said.
Dawn Marie Lynady, 30, of 807 NW 40th Ave., was charged with grand theft from the doughnut shop at 1730 W. University Ave., according to an arrest report.
Lynady is the store manager and is responsible for verifying cash sales and making cash deposits at the shop's bank. Over three days in late February, Lynady completed three deposit slips totaling $1,630, the report states.
The district manager determined that the deposits had not been made and found that the money was not in the safe, the report states. The district manager told police that Lynady could not provide an explanation for the missing deposits.
After initially denying the theft, Lynady admitted to taking the money, the arrest report states. She told police she made an unexpected trip to visit her sick grandmother and used the money to pay bills.
The report states she intended to return the money when she got her income tax refund. She had $2,028 in cash in her pocket and, prior to her arrest, she returned the $1,630 to the district manager, police said.
