Two men were seriously injured in a head-on collision Wednesday evening in Columbia County.

Gerald Butler, 50, of Gainesville was taken to Shands at the University of Florida in serious condition following the accident, which occurred at 7:10 p.m. on U.S. 90, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

Guy Strauss, 56, of Glen St. Mary, was taken to Shands in critical condition.

Strauss was eastbound on U.S. 90 driving a 2004 Lexus while Butler was westbound driving a 2002 Ford Econoline van.

FHP reported that Strauss drove into the westbound lane and was hit by Butler, whose van overturned. Both men were flown to Shands by helicopter.

Charges are pending, FHP stated.
