A 76-year-old Bronson man suffered critical injuries Tuesday afternoon when the scooter he was riding on Levy County Road 337 south of Bronson left the road and overturned, ejecting the man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

John C. Houghtaling of Bronson was transported to Shands at the University of Florida in critical condition after the accident, which occurred around 1 p.m.

According to troopers, Houghtaling was driving the 1990 Honda scooter north on C.R. 337 when for unknown reasons the scooter left the road on the east shoulder and traveled down the east shoulder for several feet before overturning.
