Tornado watch in effect until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 8 p.m. for several Florida counties, including Alachua, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy, Putnam, Suwannee and Union.

The full list counties affected is: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Duval, Flagler, Franklin, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union and Wakulla.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes in and close to the watch area.

The weather service advises that a warm front is crossing the area Monday and Monday night. Widespread showers are expected in extreme northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. A few thunderstorms are expected, with some storms becoming strong to locally severe over northeast Florida.

Scattered showers are forecast for Gainesville, with a 50 percent chance of rain on Monday and a 60 percent chance Monday night.

A cold front will sweep through on Tuesday bringing moderate to heavy rainfall, according to the weather service.
