All westbound lanes of Archer Road had been reopened by 3:45 p.m. Friday, about two hours after a two-car accident at the intersection of Gale Lemerand Drive, injuring three people.

According to Gainesville Police Department spokesman Officer Ben Tobias, a white Ford Expedition, driven by Jerome L. Williams of Gainesville, was heading west on Archer Road at a high rate of speed at around 1:30 p.m. and ran into the back of a red Mustang.

The driver of the Mustang was Coral P. Swiger of Belleview, Tobias said, and her husband, Ricky Burl Swiger of Belleview, was in the passenger seat. The couple was leaving Shands at the University of Florida. The Mustang spun out of control and hit a tree, and the Swigers were transported back to Shands at UF, Tobias said.

Williams suffered head trauma, Tobias said. Police are on scene directing traffic and investigating. Tobias said the injuries to all three motorists were not considered life-threatening.
