PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — UF earned two wins over Loyola Marymount and Oklahoma State at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs to improve its record to 14-0. The Gators first downed LMU, 8-2 before topping OSU, 2-0.
UF's Hannah Rogers (6-0) and Lauren Haeger (5-0) each earned wins for UF in the circle. Rogers struck out four in a complete-game effort over Loyola Marymount while Haeger used a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts against Oklahoma State.
Kelsey Horton was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI while nine other Gators connected had a hit. Catcher Aubree Munro was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk against Loyola Marymount.
The Gators also got back-to-back home runs from Briana Little and Katie Medina in the first game.
Haeger outdueled opposing ace Kat Espinosa in the second game, as Florida scored two runs in the sixth inning.
Taylor Schwarz had an RBI single while Taylore Fuller (Chiefland alum) and Stephanie Tofft each had a run scored for UF.
Women's basketball: Jennifer George (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Sydney Moss (15 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles, but Florida was unable to overcome a sluggish first half in a 68-57 loss to Vanderbilt.
Despite a rally to start the second half when the Gators (15-12, 4-9 SEC) erased a 26-15 halftime deficit, Florida's defensive efforts and late scoring spree were not enough to help the Gators against Vandy (17-9, 7-6 SEC).
Lacrosse: No. 3 UF lacrosse plays host to UC Davis Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The Gators are coming off a 16-9 win over No. 18 Stony Brook on Wednesday in their home opener.
Kitty Cullen had three goals and two assists, giving her 200 career points.
Brittany Dashiell reached the 100 plateau in ground balls in her career with her two against the Seawolves. Dashiell and sophomore midfielder Shannon Gilroy each added four goals in the win.
