A child found walking alone on a sidewalk led to the arrest Tuesday afternoon of the boy's mother on child neglect charges.
Jasmine Gane Jemison, 22, of 1725 NE 8th Ave., Apt. D5, was charged by the Gainesville Police Department after her 4-year-old was spotted walking in the 800 block of Southeast 15th Street, according to an arrest report.
The boy did not know his full name, his mother's full name or his address. The report states that after driving around with an officer, the boy found the apartment and identified his mother.
Police reported that the boy and Jemison were in a car when she told him to go into a Carver Gardens apartment and stay until she returned.
The resident was a friend of a friend, and he let the boy in but did not watch him because he had not been asked to do so, police reported.
The boy was spotted about 35 minutes later walking on the street and crying. A passerby called police.
Jemison told police she had to run an errand, so she told the boy to go into the apartment and stay there until she returned.
