Roundup: Eastside, GHS fall in district finals, but still get to advance
Other area teams earn spots in the finals and in the state playoffs

Gainesville and Eastside came out on the short end in the finals of their respective high school boys basketball district title games Friday.
In the District 5-6A game at Groveland South Lake, Leesburg routed Gainesville, 91-59, while host Palatka handled Eastside, 68-52, in the District 6-5A finale.
Palatka 68, Eastside 52: Palatka (23-4) will host a first round state playoff game next week, while Eastside (12-15) will be on the road.
The Panthers led 12-7 after the first quarter and 28-16 at the half to pull away from the Rams.
Tim Norman led Eastside with 14 points, while Sir Jackson added 10.
LEESBURG 91, GAINESVILLE 59: Leesburg (23-4) will host its first round Class 6A playoff game next Thursday at 7 p.m. against West Port, while Gainesville (18-9) travels to play Citrus (16-10).
The Yellow Jackets drained 13 shots from behind the 3-point arc to help build their 32-point lead.
The Hurricanes led in scoring by Isaiah Jackson's game-high 24 points. Fellow junior forward Kevin Bolen contributed 15 points.
SUWANNEE 60, WAKULLA 44: At Suwannee, the second-seeded Bulldogs advanced past No. 5 seed Wakulla in the District 2-5A semifinals behind Jimmie Taylor III's game-high 20 points.
A senior shooting guard, Taylor also posted nine rebounds and a team-best six assists. Sophomore center Kevarrius Hayes led on the glass with 13 boards and had seven points.
Wakulla was paced by Bryson Beverly's 16 points, while Suwannee's Jalon Perry, a freshman guard, reached double figures as well with 15 points.
The Bulldogs (18-5) play top-seeded Rickards tonight at 7 in the district title game.
HAMILTON COUNTY 80, LAFAYETTE 58: At Lafayette, the No. 1 seed Trojans scored a District 5-1A semifinal win against the Hornets with four scorers reaching double figures.
Lafayette (7-17) was led by senior guard Rodney Brown, who scored a game-high 22 points. Sophomore guard Noah Leake added 11 points.
Hamilton County (13-10), meanwhile, advances to play No. 3 seed Melody Christian tonight at 7 for the district title.
Hawthorne 76, Bronson 35: At Hawthorne, the top-seeded Hornets cruised past the No. 4 seed Eagles in the District 6-1A semifinals.
Hawthorne was paced by four scorers in double figures, including Charlie Thomas (19), Ed Porter (17), Nick Chisholm (14) and Jaquan Hamilton (10).
Porter, a sophomore forward, also posted 12 rebounds.
Bronson was led by freshman guard Andrew Bailey, who scored 12 points.
The Hornets (25-1) advance to play No. 2 seed Hilliard in the district championship tonight at 7.
WILLISTON 79, BRADFORD 75 (OT): At Fort White, the second-seeded Red Devils edged the No. 3 seed Tornadoes in overtime in the District 5-4A semifinals.
Williston was led in scoring by senior duo Tre Wilson (10 rebounds, 7 assists) and Damien Strange, who both scored 26 points.
Bradford's Justin McBride finished with a game-high 34 points, while Keaaris Ardley added 11.
The Red Devils (20-7) play top-seeded Fort White tonight at 7 for the district championship.
