Girls basketball regional quarterfinal preview

Class 7A, Region 1

Who: Jacksonville Ed White (20-5) at Buchholz (23-4)

What's next: Buchholz would host Ocala Forest or travel to Orange Park Fleming Island in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Ed White would travel to either Fleming Island or Forest.

Free throw: The host Bobcats, ranked No. 1 in Class 7A by MaxPreps, have won 12 of their last 13 games. Senior guard Jessica Thomas, a Miami signee, has averaged 39 points in her last four games. Buchholz, which is aiming for its third straight final four berth, has advanced to the regional semifinals six straight years. The Commanders, who are making their first playoff appearance since 2002, have not won a postseason game in four previous attempts.

Class 6A, Region 2

Who: Citrus (20-7) at Gainesville (24-1)

What's next: Gainesville will host Leesburg or travel to Ocala West Port in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Citrus will travel to either West Port or Leesburg.

Free throw: The host Hurricanes, ranked No. 2 in 6A by MaxPreps, have won 11 straight since their loss to 8A No. 1 Orlando Dr. Phillips in the championship game of the Florida Prospects Christmas Invitational. Gainesville is playing its fifth game without leading scorer and Jacksonville signee De'ja McPhee, who is recovering from an ankle injury. The ‘Canes, who last reached the state semifinals in 1987, have advanced to the regional semifinals the last three years. Citrus, which has lost two of its last three games, hasn't won a state playoff game since 1995.

Class 5A, Region 1

Who: Suwannee (4-19) at Panama City Rutherford (11-7)

What's next: Suwannee would travel to Tallahassee Rickards or Panama City Bay in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Rutherford would host Bay or travel to Rickards.

Free throw: The visiting Bulldogs, who played in the three-team District 2, are making their third state playoff appearance in the last four years and are looking for their first regional win since 2010. The host Rams are making their first playoff appearance since 1995, only their second ever, and are aiming for their first postseason win.

Class 5A, Region 2

Who: Eastside (12-11) at St. Johns Creekside (10-12)

What's next: Eastside would travel to Palatka or St. Johns Bartram Trail in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Creekside would host Bartram Trail or travel to Palatka.

Free throw: The visiting Rams, under first-year coach Lance Radford, are in their first state playoff since 2011, the 10th trip in the last 12 years. Eastside has advanced to the regional semifinals in its last two appearances (2011, 2009). The host Knights are in the playoffs for the second straight season and are looking for their first playoff win.

Class 4A, Region 2

Who: Mount Dora (12-12) at Bradford (13-7)

What's next: Bradford would host Fort White or travel to Ocala Trinity Catholic in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Mount Dora would travel to Trinity Catholic or Fort White.

Free throw: This is the host Tornadoes' fifth playoff berth in the last eight years and first since 2011. They last advanced to the regional semifinals in 2007. The visiting Hurricanes are making their first playoff appearance since 1986 and are looking for their first postseason win since 1981.

Class 4A, Region 2

Who: Fort White (16-7) at Ocala Trinity Catholic (24-2)

What's next: Fort White would host Mount Dora or travel to Bradford in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Trinity Catholic would host either Bradford or Mount Dora.

Free throw: The visiting Indians, who won 12 of their last 14 games, are making their first state playoff appearance. The host Celtics, who reached the regional finals last season and are ranked No. 9 by SourceHoops, are making their ninth playoff appearance in the last 11 years.

Class 3A, Region 1

Who: Oviedo Master's Academy (15-12) at P.K. Yonge (20-6)

What's next: P.K. Yonge would host Oak Hall or travel to Daytona Beach Father Lopez in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Master's Academy would play at either Father Lopez or Oak Hall.

Free throw: The host Blue Wave, state champions in two of the last three years (3A in 2012, 2A in 2010), are in their 14th state playoffs in the last 15 years. P.K. Yonge, which has won four state titles, has reached the final four 15 times and six of the last seven years. The visiting Eagles, who lost to the Blue Wave 56-20 in last season's regional quarterfinals, are making their fifth straight playoff appearance.

Class 3A, Region 1

Who: Oak Hall (17-8) at Daytona Beach Father Lopez (24-5)

What's next: Oak Hall would host Master's Academy or travel to P.K. Yonge in Tuesday's regional semifinals; Father Lopez would host either P.K. Yonge or Master's Academy.

Free throw: The visiting Eagles are making their first state playoff appearance since 2011 and third in the last four years. The host Green Wave, ranked No. 2 in the state by SourceHoops and MaxPreps, are in their 15th straight playoffs and are looking for their first final four berth since winning the 2A state title in 2005.
