MAITLAND - Ismeal Moreno scored Lafayette's only goal as the Hornets fell to Orangewood Christian, 7-1, in the Class 1A, Region 2 final on Tuesday.

The Rams (18-5-1) jumped on Lafayette early, as Nick Bonds scored two goals within the opening 11 minutes. Moreno's goal, assisted by Jose Diaz, closed the deficit to 2-1 at the half.

Down 3-1 in the second half, the Hornets' goalkeeper John Negrete went down and was taken out. The Rams quickly scored three goals within 15 minutes and cruised to the win.

Lafayette, which advanced to its second straight regional final, ended its season 16-6. The Hornets will lose three seniors, but will return a very talented team, including Diaz, the area's leading scorer, and Moreno, the area's top assists leader.

“They jumped on us early, in the first minute,” said Hornet coach Danny Glover. “We hit the crossbar, had our goalkeeper out, didn't make the most of our opportunities and they did.

“Last year against St. Joseph, I felt we were overmatched. I didn't feel that way today. When our goalkeeper went down it was 3-1. When he went down, they took advantage.”
