A car crash in Levy County Tuesday morning left a Chiefland woman dead and the other driver with serious injuries after the latter didn't halt at a stop sign.

Teresa Reed Riedel, 49, of Chiefland, died after another driver struck the left side of her car after failing to stop at a stop sign, sending Riedel's Kia Spectra off the road, where it lodged between two trees, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The crash occurred at about 6:20 a.m.

Sandra Vanessa Elviro, 19, of Fanning Springs, was driving her Dodge Neon east on CR-346A while Riedel was driving north on U.S. 129. Elviro didn't stop at a stop sign at the intersection of the two roads and hit Riedel's car.

Neither car had additional passengers. Elviro was taken to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida to be treated for serious injuries, according to the report.

Riedel was wearing a seatbelt, although Elviro wasn't. Charges are pending.
