The candidate qualifying period for the March 19 Gainesville city elections runs from noon Monday until noon Friday.

Races for mayor and the District 4 City Commission seat are on the ballot.

To be eligible to run for mayor, a candidate must be a registered voter and a city resident for at least six months before the time of qualifying. The qualifying fee is $404.36, but candidates may also sign an affidavit declaring that the fee is a financial hardship to request a waiver.

District 4 candidates must be registered voters and meet residency requirements.

The City Commission approved new boundaries for the four single-member districts, including District 4, in December. To be eligible for March’s election, a candidate must have lived within the current boundaries of District 4 for at least six months at the time of qualifying. A candidate who has lived for at least six months in an area added to the district during redistricting would be eligible under the city code.

The qualifying fee for District 4 is $317.71 but a waiver is also an option for those who sign an affidavit of financial hardship.

Candidates qualify at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 111 SE First Ave. For more information, call 352 374-5252 or got to
