A Tampa man who created a disturbance in a downtown Gainesville nightclub Friday was arrested after he thrust a knife-like tool in the direction of several people, according to an arrest report.

Johnny Terry Clemons, 49, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault following a disturbance at the University Club at 18 E. University Ave. at about 7:40 p.m.

Gainesville police reported that Clemons was harassing patrons and bartenders, threatening people and drinking from the glasses of others. He started to undress by taking off his shirt.

People got him to put his shirt back on, the report states, but he became enraged again and began jabbing at people with a multi-tool that he pulled from his pocket, police reported.

Police were called and an officer found Clemons outside waiting for a bus. He told police he pulled the multi-tool out to defend himself after several people blocked him when he was trying to leave.
