I am an ill-tempered elderly white man who lives in a weapon-filled cabin filled deep in the woods, but despite the stereotype, none of those weapons are guns.
I have lived a very dangerous life. By the time I was 20, I had hitchhiked over 20,000 miles. Thereafter I began roaming the world and have explored thousand of miles of trackless jungle, usually alone but often in the company of headhunters and bandits, many of whom were murderers.
My hobbies are equally perilous. There is nothing I like better than to catch venomous reptiles and track jaguars. Of late I have taken up boar hunting. So if I don't need a gun, why do you?
The world is a dangerous place, but as statistics clearly show, it has become less so over time. The frenzy of fear that is gripping our nation is just an irrational response to perceived danger. Listen to enough scary stories on Fox News and soon you too will be afraid.
There is a word in the English language to describe those who are consumed by irrational fear. That word is “coward” and there is no better word to describe supposedly full grown men who hoard guns for self protection.
I may despise cowardly bullies, but nevertheless, I support gun ownership for the simple reason that when guns are outlawed, only cops and soldiers will have guns.
In particular, I support the right of women to own and carry guns. The atrocities occurring daily throughout our nation are for the most part perpetrated by men, not women. The toxic stew of testosterone and fear that fills our veins makes men the aggressors and women and children the victims.
So if either a common criminal or a right-wing fanatic decides to pay an unannounced visit to my cabin, beware! I'm meaner than any snake, and if you get past me, I've got my girlfriend for backup and she packs!
