The news that broke Sunday night became official Tuesday, with Florida coach Will Muschamp announcing the hiring of Brad Lawing as the Gators' new defensive line coach. Lawing also was named assistant head coach.
"We are excited to have Brad Lawing join our coaching staff," Muschamp said in a UF release. "His track record speaks for itself — his nearly three decades of experience coaching defensive linemen, his familiarity with the SEC and our shared philosophical beliefs make him a perfect fit for our program."
Lawing comes to UF from South Carolina, where he has been Steve Spurrier's defensive line coach since 2006. Including a previous stint with the Gamecocks, Lawing coached at USC for 17 years. He has 33 years of coaching experience, 29 on the defensive line.
“I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with Coach Muschamp and the entire Gator coaching staff," Lawing said. "Coach Muschamp and I share the same philosophical beliefs defensively. I've enjoyed the many years I've had in South Carolina and I'm grateful for the opportunities Coach Spurrier provided to me."
From 2003-05, Lawing coached North Carolina's defensive line and served as the recruiting coordinator. His three recruiting classes were ranked among the nation's top 25.
The hiring of Lawing completes Muschamp's coaching staff.
