A Cedar Key man was killed Saturday evening while hunting hogs near Rosewood, authorities said.
John F. Alford, 63, was hunting on private property off of State Road 24 with a 17-year-old Cedar Key resident, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators.
At some point during the hunt, the hunters traveled in separate directions.
The juvenile watched several hogs cross a narrow road west of him and fired once at the hogs with a 16-gauge shotgun loaded with number 1 buckshot, the FWC reported.
Alford was within 220 feet of the juvenile and was hit by the buckshot, according to investigators.
Alford was transported to Shands at the University of Florida, where he was pronounced dead.
No charges have been filed against the teen, whose identity was not revealed, but the investigation is continuing, officials said Sunday.
