The governing body of the State University System will hold the first of two days of public meetings Wednesday at the University of Florida.
Committees of the Board of Governors will meet starting at 1 p.m. at Emerson Alumni Hall, with the facilities committee meeting first.
During the meetings, the board will discuss budget requests for physical campus projects across all universities ranging from deferred maintenance to construction projects. The board will also address performance-based funding for universities and make recommendations to fill vacancies on several boards of trustees, including one at UF.
On Thursday, Board of Governors Chairman Dean Colson will give the state of the system address.
According to the meeting agenda, UF will be asking the board to approve using $20 million from student fees to renovate and expand the Reitz Union and another $13 million to renovate Newell Hall into a study center.
The meeting comes days after former UF Trustee Alan Levine was appointed to the Board of Governors and a week after UF announced that President Bernie Machen would remain at his post at the request of Gov. Rick Scott.
