Junior Cory McGee has been named the SEC Co-Women’s Runner of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener this past weekend, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.

McGee, who earned SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week as well as SEC Indoor Women’s Runner of the Year honors in her rookie campaign, opened the 2013 season with her first-ever race in the women’s 800 meters. Despite not competing since the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, McGee turned in a remarkable performance, recovering from a near-stumble to take the race in 2:09.01. Her time is the fastest in the NCAA this year and ranks among the top-15 in the world this indoor season.

McGee was a three-time All-American last season and took home a sixth-place finish in the women’s 1,500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Her performances in the mile and the distance medley relay earned her All-America status indoors.
