A man who slept on his friend’s couch overnight stole about $2,000 worth of electronics from the apartment when he left the next morning, police said.

Pierre Barnes, 27, was arrested on a charge of felony burglary of an occupied dwelling Monday, according to a Gainesville Police Department report. He was arrested at 3205 NW 83rd St., Apt. 638, where many of the items were recovered.

Barnes slept on the couch of a friend’s apartment in the 1000 block of Southwest 14th Avenue on Friday night and after being left alone in the apartment the following morning stole an Xbox 360, seven video games, a Canon digital camera and laptop, according to a report.

Police said Barnes then asked a friend to post the items on Craigslist because he did not know how to do so. According to the report, the friend said Barnes did not tell him the items were stolen.

The roommates realized the property was missing Sunday and after finding some of the items posted on Craigslist reported it to the police.

Gainesville Police Officer Crystal Castor responded to the location where the items had been stolen. She called the suspect as a prospective buyer and asked to test the Xbox before buying it, officials said, leading her to Barnes.
