A Gainesville man was arrested Friday on multiple charges stemming from a December drug deal in which a man was beaten, according to an arrest report by the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Chad J. Martin, 18, of 3641 NW 21st Drive, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and kidnapping.

A co-defendant, Kenzo A. Alvarado, 18, was arrested on Dec. 24.

The incident happened Dec. 23 when the victim met Martin and several other men at the Jonesville Park to sell them marijuana, the report states.

When the victim got into a van at the park, Martin reportedly pulled a gun on him. The victim grabbed the gun and struggled with Martin, according to the report.

The victim was hit with a stun gun and was pistol-whipped by a teenager in the van, according to the report.

During the struggle, the gun held by Martin discharged but the bullet did not hit anyone.

The suspects eventually drove off after puncturing some of the tires on the victim's car.

Alvarado was arrested Dec. 24 on robbery, assault, battery and kidnapping charges. It was not clear whether the teenager was also arrested.

Martin was first interviewed Jan. 4 and admitted to contacting the victim to buy marijuana, but said the victim pulled the gun on him, the report states. Martin was detained again on Friday and admitted to having a handgun in his waistband, but denied pointing it at the victim.
