A Newberry man was arrested on multiple charges early Tuesday morning related to the alleged beating of his cousin, according to an Alachua County Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Ozell R. Hoyt, 19, of 25761 NW 4th Ave., was charged with domestic battery and illegal possession of prescription medicine.
The incident was reported about 3 a.m. Hoyt and his cousin live in the same house and she told a deputy that an altercation started when Hoyt confronted her about money she owed him, the report states.
When she refused to give him the money, Hoyt reportedly pushed her to the ground, pinned her down and punched her multiple times in the face.
Hoyt told authorities he pushed his cousin but did not fight her. The reported states he had scratches on his knuckles and elbows while the cousin had several bumps on her head and an injured lip.
Meanwhile, a pill bottle with 46 prescription pills but no label was found in Hoyt's pocket, the report states, adding that he did not have a prescription for the medicine. That resulted in the additional charge against Hoyt.
