A Gainesville man was arrested Sunday morning and charged with third-degree felony domestic battery involving the same woman against whom he was convicted earlier this year of committing domestic simple battery.
Esau Pernell Jr., 42, was arrested after he and the victim began arguing over $11 he accused her of taking from him, according to the arrest report.
The two have lived together for about a month and have three children together, none of whom were present at the time.
Pernell became angry during the argument and allegedly slapped her on the right side of her face, knocking off her glasses. She called law enforcement afterward.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Matthew Quinn, who filed the report, wrote he didn't see injuries on either person. After being read his Miranda rights, Pernell denied hitting the victim.
Pernell was convicted in August of domestic simple battery against the victim involving an incident in June.
His bond is set at $10,000, according to the Alachua County jail.
