A woman was arrested Sunday in connection with two recent armed robberies of Gainesville Walmarts.
Regina Mary Rossi, 52, of Pinellas Park, was arrested by Gainesville Police Department detectives without incident, said Officer Ben Tobias, GPD’s spokesman. The handgun she used also was recovered.
Rossi is alleged to have robbed the Walmart Supercenter on Waldo Road on Black Friday and the store located at 2649 NW 13th St. on Dec. 26.
During the December robbery, police reported that she put her hand in her purse and told an employee she had a gun in order to get cash from the register. She then gave some of the money back to the clerk.
GPD connected Rossi to the robberies using forensic evidence from both crime scenes, Tobias said.
Rossi has been charged with a first-degree felony charge of robbery with a firearm and is being held at the Alachua County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
GPD’s crime analysts are sending out regional bulletins with Rossi’s information to see if she could be a suspect in any other unsolved robbery cases, Tobias said. She was staying with her sister in Fort White in Columbia County before she was arrested.
